(Red Oak) A wildfire in Montgomery County consumed roughly 750 acres.
According to the press release from Montgomery County Emergency Management Agency, at 4:47 p.m. on Sunday, the Communications Center received multiple 9-1-1 calls reporting a small ditch fire in the area of Highway 34 x A Ave.
Due to the windy conditions, a call immediately went out for Mutual aid. Arriving firemen faced a quickly moving fire spreading north to adjoining fields. Authorities evacuated homes in its’ path.
It is believed that the fire originated from a previous fire two weeks ago due to strong winds.
According to the Montgomery County Emergency Management Agency, without the quick response of first responders and area farmers who contributed with tractors and discs, this fire would have traveled for several more miles, consumed many more acres, and endangered several homes and lives in the process.
No homes were destroyed, and only two minor injuries have been reported due to the blaze.
Several sections of trees and other debris continued to burn overnight, and numerous farmers continued to disc additional fire breaks to alleviate additional fire from spreading.
