(Anita) CAM hosts Baxter in a first-round playoff game on Friday night. Both teams finished second place in their respective districts with 5-1 records. Baxter is 7-1 overall, and the Cougars are 6-2.
CAM Head Coach Barry Bower says making the final 32-teams in the state says a lot about a team and its’ program.
Coach Bower says post-season is always a challenge against good teams, and he says they have a tough one coming up on Friday night against Baxter. He says Baxter runs a balanced attack on offense, evident on paper with 1,549 yards passing and 1,947 yards rushing, led by quarterback Cody Damman.
Jake Travis leads the receiving corps with 34 catches for 640-yards and ten touchdowns, and Treyton Travis has 18 catches for 361 yards and ten touchdowns.
Baxter enters post-season play averaging 65-points per game. The Bolts suffered its’ only loss to Montezuma in a shootout, 64-62.
The Cougars averaged 46-points per game during the regular season and allowed the opposition an average of 21-points per contest. Baxter allowed the opposition an average of 26-points per outing.
CAM has 2,848 yards of offense. Chase Spieker has thrown for 1,228 yards and 22 touchdowns with just four interceptions. Austin Williams leads the ground attack with 133 carries for 794 yards and 15 touchdowns.
