(Atlantic) The Atlantic City Council Wednesday evening approved a proposal to enter into a General Obligation Land Acquisition Loan Agreement
The approval followed a public hearing in which there were no comments. The resolution authorizes a loan agreement, providing for the issuance of a $500,000 taxable General Obligation Land Acquisition Bonds and providing for the levy of taxes to pay the same. The resolution will allow for the City to issue General Obligation debt, services through local option sales tax funds to backfill their $830,000 purchase of the 41.54 acres of land from the Comes Family Trust.
In other activity, the Council held a public hearing on changing the zoning classification of certain real property from R-3 (High Density Single Family Residential District) to C-1 (Highway Commercial District). 301 Maple is a lot that once held a dilapidated house on it that was acquired by the City during their ongoing operation to clear out blighted properties. The City requested sealed proposals from interested parties and the Personnel & Finance Committee reviewed those bids during their June 8th meeting. The committee recommended the sale of 301 Maple to Mr. Jamie Joyce, the owner of JJ Designs, LLC, for $10,000. His intent is to erect a building to expand his business with the purpose of warehousing, sign assembly, graphic application on vehicles, and business vehicle housing. Mr. Joyce would like to proceed with the submission of his commercial site plan to the Planning & Zoning Commission for their November 8th meeting so he can secure his building permit and order the building. Therefore, the City Council approved orders to waive the second and third readings and approve the zoning change. There were no comments during the hearing.
The Council held another public hearing on vacating a portion of Country Oaks right-of-way between 2703 and 2605 Country Oaks. The City feels that this section of right-of-way serves no existing or future public purpose and vacating the land would be appropriate. There were no comments during the hearing. The Council approved first reading of the ordinance.
Mayor Grace Garrett reported that the Atlantic Animal Shelter got a very good rating with the Animal Shelter Inspection.
The Atlantic City Council also recognized Atlantic Parks and Recreation Director Bryant Rasmussen for his contributions to the City.
Rasmussen’s last day is Friday. He is taking a job with the Department of Agriculture Soil and Water Conservation District in Mills County.
