(Anita) The CAM volleyball team will be in action Monday night when they travel to Coon Rapids-Bayard. The Cougars are 8-4 on the season while Coon Rapids-Bayard is 3-10.
Coach Jenna Maiers says her team will need to serve well. “When we serve well it’s really hard for teams to get into our system. We tend to use that serving for the rest of our game and use it as our energy to get the whole flow of our game going.”
Another important matchup looms on Thursday when they face rival Exira-EHK. “Any time we play Exira-EHK it’s kind of a little bit of a mind game. The girls have known each other for forever and competed against each other for forever. We just have to play tough and play our game and hope for the best outcome.
CAM is coming off of a 1-1 night at Woodbine on Thursday. They beat Woodbine in five sets. “We knew going into the Woodbine game it was going to be tough. Every year we battle with them pretty hard. Honestly, I don’t know what set us over the top. Our girls just kind of kept pushing through in that game five. They weren’t going to let Woodbine beat us this year.”
Also on Thursday, CAM pushed Griswold to three sets, but lost 25-22, 22-25, 11-15. Coach Maiers says the team’s work ethic is their biggest strength. “We like to work real hard. That’s one thing that I’ve said about this group the last four years that I’ve been with CAM. These girls work really, really hard. They don’t like to give up and they are going to give you their all until the end of every game.”
Bree Bower has 141 assists on the season. Eva Steffensen leads the team in kills with 74 and Emma Follmann had 44. The duo also ranks 1-2 on the squad in blocks with 17 and 12, respectively. Meredith Rich has 88 digs and Reese Snyder has 86. Rich leads the squad in aces with 33.
