(Glenwood) Glenwood‘s big first quarter led to a 43-27 win over Atlantic in a non-district football game at Glenwood on Friday night.
Atlantic grabbed the early lead. The Trojans won the toss and deferred to the second half. On Glenwood’s initial drive senior linebacker Jackson McLaren picked off a Kayden Anderson pass. On the Trojans’ opening play, Colton Rasmussen gathered in a Caden Andersen bomb down the sideline, and Rasmussen raced home on the 47-yard strike to put the Trojans up 7-0 following the PAT.
All totaled Andersen went 24-43 in the air for 334-yards and three touchdowns. Colton Rasmussen caught five passes for 181-yards and two touchdowns.
The Rams came roaring back, scoring 21-straight points in the first quarter. Kayden Anderson fired a 12-yard strike to Payton Longmeyer, and Tate Mayberry scored on runs of 66 and six yards. Mayberry led the rushing attack with 18-carries for 110-yards and three touchdowns.
The Trojans narrowed the gap to 21-14 on Caden Andersen’s 12-yard strike to Tanner O’Brien, but the Rams responded with 15 unanswered points and opened up a 36-14 lead at the break. Anderson hooked up with Cody Krause on a 57-yard pass play, Tent Patton blocked a punt for a safety, and Tate Mayberry capped off the first half with a nine-yard run.
Krause led the Glenwood receiving corps with six catches for 180-yards and two touchdowns. Kayden Andersen completed 18-27-passes for 329-yards and three touchdowns.
The Trojans outscored the Rams 13-7 in the second half. Tanner O’Brien scored on a one-yard plunge to narrow the gap to 36-20, and Glenwood responded with an Anderson to Krause 65-yard pass play to push the spread to 43-20.
The final tally for the Trojans came on a 43-yard touchdown strike to Rasmussen to bring the score to 43-27, and that’s where the action settled out at the final bell.
Dante Hedrington led Atlantic’s rushing attack with 16-carries for 69-yards. Carter Pellett caught seven passes for 75-yards, Jackson McLaren made five catches for 27-yards, and Jayden Proehl caught four passes for 17-yards. Colton Becker and Tanner O’Brien led the team defensively with five tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss.
Glenwood piled up 441 yards of offense, 333 in the air, and 108 yards on the ground. Atlantic finished with 412 yards of offense, 334-yards passing, and 78-yards rushing.
The Trojans host Kuemper next Friday night. Kick-off at 7:00 p.m. Glenwood plays at Indianola.
