(Exira) Exira-EHK got off to a quick start in their 2022 season opener. The Spartans stormed ahead 28-0 after one quarter, led 48-0 at halftime, and beat Griswold 61-22.
Aiden Flathers had 85 yards rushing and three scores on only five attempts. He also returned an interception for a touchdown. Jameson Kilworth added two rushing TD’s on his five carries for 20 yards. Alex Hansen ran six times for 41 yards. Trey Petersen connected with Cash Emgarten on a 41 yard TD pass and also completed a 20 yarder to Derrek Kommes.
Flathers spoke with KSOM/KS95 Sports after the game, “Our line was doing an exceptional job at blocking. Making huge holes and I was getting downfield and still being untouched and they were running right along with me.”
Griswold put passing TD’s on the board with a combination of Bode Wyman to Auden Wilson. The duo hooked up for 30 and 58 yard scoring plays. Mason Steinhoff posted an 18 yard rushing touchdown. Zane Johnson led the Tiger rushing production with 53 yards on 8 carries.
“Offensively I thought we executed pretty well. Communication up front I thought was really well with the kids. Obviously we’ll watch some film and get better.” Coach Tom Petersen said afterwards, “Overall I was pretty pleased.”
1-0 Exira-EHK meets West Harrison next week. 0-1 Griswold will face Bedford.
