(Audubon) KSOM will bring you a district baseball doubleheader on the air Saturday. Game one features Audubon opposing Stanton. Coon Rapids-Bayard hosts AHSTW in the nightcap.
Audubon coach Matt Wilder got a chance to scout Stanton on Thursday night when they beat Logan-Magnolia 9-4. “They are good. They hit the ball well. They squared it up a few times and had a couple of doubles. They put the ball in play, they didn’t strike out a lot, and they got walked a bunch too. I know both teams weren’t throwing their #1’s by any means, but they looked pretty solid.”
Audubon has 11 wins and 11 losses on the season. They’ve scored 140 runs and they’ve allowed 140 runs. “We are getting there. Our pitching the last couple of weeks has been kind of up and down. We’ve been walking a lot of guys. But our hitting has been coming around. It was really good for a few weeks and then we snapped back to reality, but we played a good solid ballgame against CAM the other night.”
Gavin Smith has had a fantastic season at the plate with a .470 average, 8 doubles, 2 triples, 5 home runs, and 24 RBI. “He’s been our leader all year. He’s been one of our leaders the last two or three years. As a sophomore he hit just over .400, as a junior he hit just over .400, so we knew he was going to hit the ball well. He’s getting that power. He’s had a lot of doubles the last couple of years. I think last year he got his first home run. That kind of comes with age too. You get a little older and stronger and he’s finally starting to get the home runs. He’s hitting the ball hard.”
Stanton comes in with a mark of 11-9. Pregame coverage for game one starts at around 4:50 with a 5:00 first pitch. Game two is set to start at 7:00 p.m.
