(Atlantic) Atlantic’s quick start leads to a 9-3 win over Denison-Schleswig in a Hawkeye Ten Conference softball game at Denison on Wednesday night.
Ava Rush, Malena Woodward, and Riley Wood provided the firepower at the plate for the Trojans in the four-run first inning. Rush and Wood drilled triples, and Woodward smacked a double in the four-run first inning.
Atlantic Head Coach Terry Hinzmann says scoring four runs in the first inning was one of the big keys to winning the ballgame.
The Trojans tacked on one run in the third inning and four more runs in the fourth and led 9-0. The Monarchs scored their three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Riley Wood pitched the win for the Trojans, allowing three runs on six hits, struck out three, and walked one batter.
The Trojans travel to Kimballton to play Exira/EHK in non-conference action tonight.
