(Lewis) The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is reminding hunting dog owners that training for state-owned Wildlife Management Areas is next week.
DNR Fisheries Biologist John Lorenzen, appearing on the Saturday DNR report on KSOM, says wildlife management areas are closed annually from March 15 to July 15 to keep dogs from disturbing birds during the nesting season.
Lorenzen says that starting July 15 (Wednesday), state-owned wildlife management areas will be open for dog training to get dogs on birds in preparation for the hunting season.
Dove hunting kicks off the 2026 season on September 1.
