(Atlantic) The Atlantic Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors held a ribbon cutting for the Atlantic Animal Shelter this morning.
Kris Erickson, Animal Control Officer, said the process of adding onto and upgrading the shelter began about two years ago. COVID put the project on hold for a little while, but the shelter was finally completed in January.
The project included new office space, a new cat area separate from the dogs, storage space, an exam and grooming area, and more.
Erickson said on their wish list now is they would like to have two kennels going out the back of the building for quarantine dogs so they can let themselves in and out, making is safer for staff.
Erickson said they have fundraisers in conjunction with Atlantic Parks and Recreation including the Easter Dog Bone Hunt; they have dog waste cleanup signs for sale; and of course, donations are always welcome.
The Shelter currently has several cats and dogs available for adoption. For more information, visit the Atlantic Animal Shelter Facebook Page.
