Hans Leo Madsen, the son of Hans and Sophie (Lauritsen) Madsen, was born November 19, 1936, in rural Audubon County, Iowa and died May 24, 2022, at The Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 85 years, 6 months, and 5 days.
Leo was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon. He attended rural school near Audubon and then attended Audubon High School. He was hired as a farm hand for several local farmers until he was employed at Audubon Produce until it closed.
On September 2, 1961, he was united in marriage to Janice Gaer at the Merrill’s Grove Baptist Church in Fiscus, Iowa. They were blessed with two sons, Curtis and Darin. They made their home in Audubon and he was employed at Louie’s Standard for several years until it sold. He was then employed at Christiansen Motors in Audubon until he retired. Leo was not one to sit still, so during retirement he worked various jobs in the Audubon area to keep him busy.
Leo was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Audubon. He loved to spend time at the Audubon County Speedway while it was open. You could often find him in the flag stand, maintaining the track, or cleaning the grounds. He enjoyed classic cars, especially his 1957 Ford and tending to his lawn that he spent several hours on every week. Leo cherished the time visiting with his friends whether on his porch or around the community.
