(Ames) Gage Clay’s career as a sprinter at Iowa State has come to a close.
The former AHSTW track star tells KSOM/KS95.7 Sports he enjoyed his time with the Cyclones. “It was fantastic. I always had a great time practicing and competing with everybody. I wouldn’t change it for the world, because it was a great experience.”
Clay starred 200’s and 400’s for ISU. “I had a bunch of PR’s throughout the year. We had a great Indoor Conference Meet right before COVID hit and ended up winning a first place medal and first place as a team as well. That was a pretty great deal. A bunch of accomplishments I can’t even remember, but all the PR’s and all the fun times I had with my team were great.”
He was a national qualifier during his sophomore season. An extra year of eligibility was available if he desired, but Clay has opted to hang it up after four years of college track. “I went back and forth for a little bit at the beginning of the year this year. I didn’t know if I wanted to continue and then I had three different injuries this year. One was a strained hamstring and I think my time as a runner was coming to an end because of how much I was getting injured already, but I’m pretty excited to start this real world stuff.”
Clay plans to get into education and coaching.
