(Glenwood) A Des Moines man is in custody in the Mills County Jail on eluding and drug possession charges.
A Sergeant with the Mills County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am early this morning. The car driven by 39-year-old Andrew Lee Edwards of Des Moines failed to stop and continued northbound on Interstate 29 for a short distance before coming to a stop near the 40-mile marker.
Edwards threw a bag out of his window during the pursuit, which was recovered and identified as methamphetamine. Edwards admitted to swallowing a large amount of methamphetamine during the pursuit and was transported by Pacific Junction Rescue to Mercy Hospital.
Edwards was later released from the hospital and transported to the Mills County Jail and charged with; eluding, methamphetamine possession, drug paraphernalia, driving while barred, and obstructing prosecution. Additionally, Edwards has multiple warrants for his arrest out of Adel, Iowa, for 1st-degree harassment and a probation violation out of Benton County, Minnesota.
The Iowa State Patrol, Glenwood Police Department, and Pacific Junction Rescue assisted the Mills County Sheriff’s Office.
