(Atlantic) In April of 2021, the Atlantic School Board approved participation in the Iowa Jobs for America’s Graduates Program. The IJAG program is a non-profit organization connecting business and education to provide the most cost-effective dropout prevention and school career solutions.
Guy Somers, IJAG Instructor, provide the school board with an update on the first-year program with some figures as of March 31.
Somers says the program is coming around to what it’s supposed to be now that COVID restrictions are going away.
Somers says currently, 22 students are enrolled in the elective course, and that number will fall to 15 following senior graduation. Somers sees a lot of growth in students’ self-confidence and ability to challenge themselves and try new things.
The program is currently for juniors and seniors. Mr. Somers expects to see around thirty students taking the elective course next school year.
