(Cass Co.) The Cass County Board of Supervisors and Cass County Treasurer had a lengthy conversation this morning regarding a new hire and the hiring process.
The issue was brought about after the Board of Supervisors last week approved hiring an employee as a Driver’s License Examiner at $18 per hour, a lower rate than what was requested by Treasurer Tracey Marshall.
Tracey said $18 per hour is not a proper wage for an employee in the Treasurer’s Office.
The Supervisors stated that their biggest issue was that Tracey did not follow the proper hiring procedures.
Supervisor Mark O’Brien stated that they have to do things the proper way or they could get sued…
This morning, Tracey presented a new hiring request for Stacy Mueller, a current Dispatcher. Stacy stated that she wants to take this job as the hours are a better fit for her and her family.
There was much back and forth discussion on a starting wage and start date. Two motions were made that failed. Because Stacy is a current dedicated county employee, Steve Green made a motion to start Stacy at $20 per hour until she is fully certified and then the wage move to $22.25. That motion failed for a lack of a second. Green made another motion with a starting wage of $19.50 and that motion was seconded by Hartkopf, but the motion failed after a vote of 3-Nay and 2-Aye. Tracey Marshall had Stacy’s start date as May 3rd, which caused another issue as the Board and Cass County Emergency Management Director Mike Kennon understood that Stacy’s two-week notice did not begin until today.
Tracey Marshall posed this question to the Supervisors while the board was discussing moving Stacy’s start date…
In the end, the Supervisors approved a motion to hire Stacy at $19 per hour beginning May 6th; on June 6th pay will be increased to $20 per hour; and upon full certification her pay will go to $22.25.
