(Oakland) Riverside will compete Monday at Woodbine in a boys track meet.
The Bulldogs are coming off of a meet title their last time out. On Thursday they participated at Griswold’s meet and won the small schools division. “We really came out and ran well as a team. We scored in about every event that we were in. It is always nice when you can get field event points. We scored in every field event for the first time this year. Mikey Casson won the 100, our 4X100, 4X200, 4X800, and Distance Medley won. Our 4X400 got second and our Shuttle Hurdle threw down a really good time. Everything was kind of clicking.”
Coach Alex Oliver’s team has the state’s 11th fastest time in the Class 1A for the 4X100 and they rank 5th in the 4X200 after running a 1:33.60 last week. “The core of the sprint relays right now starts with Liam Fagan as a senior. He’s a super hard worker and has gotten incredibly faster throughout his four years. Mikey Casson has had success the last few years. The third leg is Grady Jeppesen, kind of an all around athlete that has worked hard. Then Ayden Salais, this is his first year of running high school track and he’s been a big contributor this season.”
The victory lap on Thursday in Griswold was something they’d been anxiously anticipating. “It was kind of an expectation for them. We got rained out a couple of times earlier this season when we thought we could win some meets. Avoca we thought we had a good shot at. We really thought we had a good shot the other night at Lenox, but it didn’t come together. They were pretty happy. They were planning on winning.”
After Monday’s meet at Woodbine the Bulldogs will have just one regular season competition left before the Western Iowa Conference meet in Avoca on May 3rd.
