A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held for 74-year old Charles (Chuck) Ronald Miller, on Sunday, March 27th from 2-4 pm at the Griswold Community Building. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Midwest or the Griswold United Methodist Church. Cremation has taken place. A private family interment will be held at a later date.
Charles (Chuck) Ronald Miller, 74; died peacefully at home on March 2, 2022, with his loving wife Cindy by his side.
Chuck, the son of Ronald and Donis (Dunn) Miller, was born April 3, 1947, at Leonard Nursing Home, Griswold in the midst of an electrical storm. He lived most of his life in the Griswold area, attending country school, Griswold Elementary, Pineville Elementary in Louisiana, and graduated from Griswold High School in 1965. He attended Iowa State University in Ames, IA obtaining his BS degree in Agronomy and Economics in 1969.
Chuck married Cindy McCoy on November 23, 1968, at the First United Methodist Church in Waterloo, IA. To this union, two children were born: Chris and Cheri. After graduation, he went to work for Mobil Oil Co. and lived in Gowrie, IA before moving back to Griswold to farm with his dad, his lifelong dream.
Chuck lost his dad in 1974 and continued farming, being joined over the years by Rick Weidman, Delbert and Chuck Rieken, and David Denne. Farming was his passion along with his family and friends. In the mid-1980 he earned his Real Estate and Brokers License as well as his Certified General Appraisers License running his own business from home for many years. He retired from both of these in 2019.
He loved anything outdoors including hunting, fly fishing, boating, snowmobiling, competition shooting, and golfing. He enjoyed traveling near and far with a special affinity for mountains, Bull Shoals Lake in Arkansas, and weekend jaunts to obscure places. He also enjoyed woodworking and engineering new and better ways to achieve results. He was a lifelong member of Griswold United Methodist Church, serving many terms on the Board of Trustees; was on the Board of Directors for NVRA serving as president; also served on the Griswold Fire Department for several years, was a member of the Cass County Zoning Board of Adjustment, and the Magistrate Nominating Commission.
He worked hard at everything he did, loved his wife deeply, adored his children and grandchildren, and was devoted to his friends. He enjoyed helping people when he could and with assistance from his travel partner, Ron Wohlenhaus, made several moving trips for the family to New York, Vermont, Louisiana, Texas, and Wyoming.
Chuck was preceded in death by his father, Ronald; father-in-law Jerry and mother-in-law JoAnne McCoy; and his brother-in-law John Bamonte.
He is survived by his wife, Cindy; son, Chris Miller; daughter, Cheri (Matt) Hidlebaugh; grandchildren: Braeden, Cody, and Jocelyn Miller; Miciah and Haylee Hidlebaugh; his mother, Donis Miller; other “mother”, Lucille Bergstrom; sister, Mary Lynn (John) Langley; sister Jo Miller Bamonte; sister-in-law Cheryl (Eugene) Lockwood; nieces, Cary Douglas, and Paula Lundy; nephews, Jay and John Guild, and Michael Langley; and numerous cousins.
