(Stanton) The Stanton girls are one win away from their first trip to the girls state basketball tournament since 1923. The Viqueens will oppose Exira-EHK in a game that will air on KS95.7 FM Wednesday night.
Coach Dave Snyder says his team will need to take care of the ball, get to the free-throw line, and play some of their best ball of the year. A good attitude and focus have been strengths for Stanton during the 2021-22 campaign. “The attitude of our players and how focused they are. We’ve been in some situations in games where we’ve had to come back. We’ve had to play ugly basketball once in a while to win. They accept the situation and don’t panic and play through it. They solve problems that need to be solved out there and we’ve been very successful at 24-0.”
Coach Snyder says the two teams are very similar to one another. “They have four players that score really well from inside or outside that obviously concern us. Their 5th starter knows her role really well. We are really similar. If you look at our stats they are almost identical. We’ve got a big job at hand.”
The 10th ranked Viqueens carry a 24-0 record into Wednesday’s regional final. Exira-EHK is rated 5th with a mark of 21-1. Exira-EHK has knocked Stanton out of the regional tournament in each of the last two seasons.
