(Montgomery Co.) Montgomery County Emergency Management says it took several agencies roughly two hours this afternoon to contain what started out as a small ditch fire but turned into a large field fire by the time it was put out.
Montgomery County EMA Coordinator Brian Hamman said without the help of their mutual aid partners and area landowners, this fire could have been much worse. The fire was contained to approximately 45 acres.
Dry, warm and windy conditions are forecasted for the next several days with minimal chances of precipitation. Hamman said should conditions continue down this road and as fires become more frequent, a burn ban will most likely be placed. Please use extreme caution with ANY open burn and DO NOT discard of smoking material from your vehicles.
Agencies that responded to the fire include: Red Oak Fire Department, Grant Fire Department, Griswold Fire & Rescue, Montgomery County Emergency Management Agency, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office , Pottawattamie County Conservation, and MidAmerican Energy.
