(Audubon) The Audubon County Board of Supervisors received an update this week from Conservation Director Bruce Haag in regards to the cabins being built at Littlefield.
Supervisor’s Chairman Doug Sorensen says each cabin costs about $77,000 and the budget needs altered to keep things rolling. “It will benefit us multiple ways. One it is going to provide a recreational opportunity that we haven’t had. You can go camping now at Littlefield without having a camper. That’s the benefit to the residents. These cabins where they have been put in in other counties have generated enough revenue to pay for themselves over and over again. They are a big revenue producer.” Sorensen looks for the additional revenue to help out with future projects such as trails around the lake. 50% of the money raised from the rent on the cabins will come back to the County.
Audubon County Economic Development appeared in front of the board to discuss TIF allocations and Valley Business Park funds. “ACED is going to come back with some plans as far as how to utilize that money to have an impact. We don’t want to blow this money to the wind and have no economic bounce out of it. We’d like to see this money go towards getting things going that will actually long term benefit the county. To me that’s what’s important.”
The Supervisors also discussed Tuesday some quotes for new windows. “They are 40 years old. More than half of them won’t open. Some don’t seal right and have air leaks coming around them. It’s just time to jump that hurdle if we can. We were talking about that and if it is going to happen this year. We were hoping to do it in 2022, but it may not happen for another year.” Sorensen says they’ve received multiple estimates in the range of $120,000-$300,000.
