(Area) The National Weather Service issued a High Wind Warning for all of western Iowa from noon on Wednesday to midnight.
The forecast is for the south to southwest winds of 30-40 miles per hour with gusts of 60 to 70 miles per hour. Brooke Hagenhoff is with the National Weather Service in Des Moines.
Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles.
People should avoid being outside in forested areas and around trees and branches. If possible, remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm, and avoid windows. Use caution if you must drive.
