(Audubon) Treynor took the lead with an 11-0 first quarter run and didn’t trail the rest of the game in a 46-29 girls basketball win at Audubon on Tuesday.
Audubon took an early 9-3 lead, but Treynor was able to take away the Wheelers inside game and gained control moving forward. Clara Tiegland and Kasey Lang each scored a dozen points in the win. Alexa Schwartz added 9 for the 3-1 Cardinals. Treynor improves to 2-0 in Western Iowa Conference play. They limited Audubon to just a pair of two-point field goals in the 2nd half with their aggressive double teams in the post. 15 of Audubon’s 29 points in the game came beyond the arc, but the Wheelers shot a low percentage from the outside.
Audubon was led by 13 points from Aleah Hermansen, Audrey Jensen scored seven, and Jaci Christensen contributed six. The Wheelers scored only four points in the 2nd quarter to drop behind 22-15 at halftime. Treynor hit a 3-pointer from Schwartz early in the 3rd quarter to stretch the lead to double figures. They extended the edge to 37-23 by the end of the third quarter. Hermansen and Jensen had back-to-back three’s at one point in the 2nd half to trim the margin into single digits, but a serious comeback bid never materialized.
Audubon moves to 2-1 on the season. They’ll be back in action against AHSTW on Friday night in Avoca.
