(Area) It’s opening weekend for pheasant hunting in Iowa.
The DNR projects 55,000 hunters will participate in the first day of the season. “What can they expect? The word has been similar to last year. If you liked what you saw last year we expect similar numbers this year. So it should be a good opener.”
Bryan Hayes with the DNR says the weather always plays a big role in the success of the opening weekend. This year looks good. “We are looking at cool temperatures with some moisture. You can’t ask for anything better. Sometimes you are dealing with dry conditions or it’s warm for the dogs to work for very long. This year heading into the opening day the weather looks good and we look to have a decent pheasant opener.”
The Iowa DNR encourages hunters to take advantage of public land available for hunting. Locations can be found online at IowaDNR.gov.
