(Adair County) A semi-truck driver distracted by a ringing cell phone wrecked his semi on Interstate 80 in Adair County, shutting down both eastbound I-80 near the 86-mile marker.
The Iowa State Patrol report says the accident happened at around 3:32 p.m. on Friday, September 24, near the 86.6-mile marker. The driver, of an eastbound 2014 Volvo semi identified as 30-year old Kevin M. Fuster of Springfield, Missouri, told State Police he received a phone call, looked down at his phone to answer it, and the semi started drifting off the road to the right. Fuster attempted to steer the semi to the left, veered across both lanes of traffic, and struck the cable barrier. The trailer swung to the right and rolled onto its’ side blocking both lanes of traffic.
The Iowa State Patrol detoured eastbound vehicles off the roadway at the Highway 25 exit ramp.
