(Atlantic) Atlantic Schools Superintendent Steve Barber says the district is serving more students this school year. Barber submitted the preliminary student inventory report to the school board on Wednesday.
Barber says he is confident the certified enrollment is up 25 plus students, and the net for open enrollment is approximately 20 students. He says as of a week ago, a total of 31 new students were from out of state, and 45 new students from other Iowa schools, some of which moved into the district and others opened enrolled from surrounding districts. Josh Rasmussen, Middle School Principal reported three new students enrolled on Wednesday, not included in the figures above.
Certified Enrollment: 1360 compared to 1332.32 one year ago. Open enrolled in 135 compared to 122.3 one year ago. Open enrolled out: 35 compared to 43 one year ago. Open enrolled net: 100 compared to 79.3 one year ago. HSAP: 53 CPI, CPI, +HSAP.
Barber says many resident students being educated at virtual schools last year returned to onsite instruction, while eight from home schools are now attending.
It was reported progress continues toward the High School facility construction project. The tennis courts need concrete poured on three sides, and wires will be powered up once all the other electrical work is completed. The track is nearly complete, and Midwest Tennis and Track will paint the track as soon as the paint supply arrives. In addition to that, the turf at the soccer field is now being used by the band and football team.
Electrical work is progressing in the concession stand, grading work is still needed for the shot put and discus areas, along with seeding in multiple areas, and fence work needs to be done around the track.
Under the consent agenda; Kirstin Blake, Color Guard, Stephanie Clark, Volunteer High School/Middle School Cheerleading, and Tanya Havens, Volunteer, High School/Middle School Cheer, received approval for contracts. Randall Simpson, Rebecca Wallace, Taylor Williams, and Tricia Nicewanger, float sponsors, received contract approval. In addition to that, Marie Kucera, Substitute School Bus Paraprofessional, and Emily Melanson, Washington Paraprofessional, received approval for contracts. The board also accepted the resignation of the High School paraeducator and Head Cheer Sponsor Michella Bartholomew.
