(Atlantic) Atlantic City Administrator John Lund presented the latest Census numbers to the City Council on Wednesday.
Lund says Atlantic recorded the highest population loss amongst the nine cities comparable to Atlantic’s size. Since the 2010 census, Atlantic lost 4.5-percent of its population and went from 7,112, in 2010, to 6,792 in 2020. “Atlantic is not alone, most all of southwest is struggling with population.”
Lund says 36-percent of the Iowa Communities gained or maintained population, and 32 of those 37-cities are located in Des Moines, Iowa City, Cedar Rapids, Dubuque, and Davenport.
Cass County recorded a population of 13,956, down,- 8.0%, from 2010, and Pottawattamie County, 93,667, up slightly from the 2010 census. Shelby County, 11,746, down -5.9-percent, Guthrie County, 10,623, down, -2.4%, Montgomery County, 10,330, down, -7.7 percent, Adair County, 7,496, down, -6.9 percent, Audubon County, 5,674, down, 10.2%, and Adams County, lost -10% of its population over the past ten years, from 4,029 to 3,704 today.
