(Atlantic) Another great turnout and another beautiful day for the 13th Annual Trevor Fredrickson Memorial Golf Tournament on Saturday at the Nishna Hills Golf Course in Atlantic.
Trevor’s mother, Melanie Petty, says following Trevor’s passing, his classmates hosted a golf tournament in Trevor’s honor to raise money for scholarships. Petty says it was such a great turn-out; she wanted to keep it going because it could do many great things for the community, in his honor and memory. “That is the one thing for me is, anytime I can hear his name, it gives me goosebumps, and I’m happy people still remember him, “said Petty. “Some of the people here never got the chance to meet him, and they sure missed out.
“He was so chill,” said Petty. “He loved his sports, he loved his family, he believed in God, he was a worker, and he was always so kind. A lot of people relied on him to be a good friend.”
This annual fundraiser goes toward scholarships and many community activities. “I’m so thankful people continue to turn out for this year after year,” said Petty. “We’ve had great weather just about every year, and we just hope people continue to come out and help us so that we can help others.”
The Trevor Fredrickson Memorial Fund was founded in memory of 21-year old Trevor Fredrickson, who lost his life in an apartment fire on June 18, 2009. He was a 2006 Atlantic High School Graduate and a 2008 Graduate of Southwestern Community College.
The T-Fred Golf Tournament has generated around $275,000.The money raised from the tournament over the past years has benefited over 40 different community organizations.
