(Kimballton) Exira-EHK hosts Woodbine Friday evening in a Class 1A Regional Semifinal. We’ll have the game on 96.5 KSOM.
The Spartans advanced with a 1-0 win over Audubon on Wednesday. Leadoff batter Shay Burmeister scored their only run of the game when she was bunted in by Quinn Grubbs in the 1st inning. It was their 7th shutout of the season and snapped a two game skid. “I think the girls handled the two losses pretty well and they are motivated. They are coming ready to play.” Coach Andrea Nulle says, “They understand that it doesn’t really matter now what we did in the regular season. Now it’s just win or go home. They are a competitive group of girls and they are going to fight until the last out. They’ll come ready to play.”
Coach Andrea Nulle’s squad has a record of 21-6. They’ll face a familiar opponent on Friday. 22-5 Woodbine comes to town for a rematch of Rolling Valley Conference co-champions. The Spartans won the first meeting this season 10-0 on June 11th. Woodbine won last week’s contest 6-4.
Woodbine is led both at the plate and in the pitcher’s circle by 8th grader Charlie Pryor. Pryor is 18-4 with a 0.79 ERA. She’s struck out 188 batters and walked 15 in 141 innings. Opponents are hitting .152 against her. With the bat, Pryor has a .367 average with two homers and 24 RBI. Nicole Hoefer has two home runs and 22 RBI while Jordan Butrick has gone deep twice and driven in 19 runs. Five players have at least 15 stolen bases for the Tigers.
On the other side of the bracket are Newell-Fonda and St. Edmond. The top rated Mustangs are 33-4. The Gaels are 16-10. The Regional Final will be played on Monday, July 12th.
