(Atlantic) The Atlantic baseball and softball teams will step foot on the newly renovated fields this evening. The softball team hosts a doubleheader with St. Albert at 5:30 p.m. The baseball team hosts St. Albert in a J.V. -Varsity contest. The J.V. game starts at 5:30, with the varsity game to follow.
Atlantic Athletic Director Andy Mitchell will address the crowd before the games.
Joel Sims, the first Head Coach of the Softball program, will throw out the first pitch. Sims inducted into the Atlantic High School Softball Hall of Fame in 2014, coached for 22-seasons, compiling 410-203 and five conference titles.
Grant Petty will throw out the first pitch before the varsity baseball game at 7:30 p.m. Petty is throwing in honor of his brother Trevor Frederickson, a 2006 Atlantic High School graduate who played baseball at Atlantic and Southwestern Community College in Creston. Trevor lost his life in an apartment fire in 2009. However, the Trevor Frederickson Memorial Fund lives on and provided funds amounting to thousands of dollars to the baseball and softball facilities and other local projects and programs.
The new facility includes; new dugouts, batting gages, concessions, press boxes, newly renovated playing fields, and a hard-surfaced walkway between the two fields.
We will have the softball doubleheader on 95.7 FM. The pre-game starts at 5:10 p.m.
