(Clarinda) Atlantic and Clarinda split in a baseball doubleheader at Clarinda on Tuesday night. The Trojans won the first game 9-7, and the Cardinals won the nightcap 13-3.
Solid pitching performances led the Trojans from the arms of Lane Nelson, Garrett McLaren, and Wyatt Redinbaugh. Nelson pitched 3 and 2/3 innings giving up two earned runs, and McLaren and Redinbaugh each pitched 1 and 2/3 innings and allowed two earned runs.
Eight players in the batting lineup registered a hit. Bodie Johnson went two-for-three at the plate with two singles and an RBI. McLaren was one-for-four with three RBI.
“The guys did an excellent job,” said Brummer. “They stole four bases and committed just one error.”
In the second game, the Trojans used four pitchers, Garrett Reynolds, Colin Mullenix, Zane Vance, and Carter Pellett. Gunner Kirchhoff and Grant Sturm led the way at the plate. Kirchhoff went two-for-three with an RBI, and Sturm was one-for-three with a triple.
“We put the ball in play and only struck out five times,” said Brummer. “It was a good night overall against an excellent Clarinda team.”
