(Atlantic) During a signing ceremony this morning, Atlantic all-around athlete Grant Sturm signed on to play football and baseball for Simpson College.
“I wanted to play college football, and baseball and Simpson allowed me the opportunity to do that,” said Grant Sturm during a signing ceremony this morning.
Sturm is coming off a senior year in football with third-team All-State honors as a defensive back, with six interceptions and 21 solo tackles. Sturm says juggling the two sports won’t conflict with one another. “The Coaches told me from the beginning, when its football season, its football season, and when it’s baseball season, its baseball season.”
Sturm starts his senior in baseball on the heels of an outstanding junior season. He batted .451, with an on-base percentage of .582, and stroked 21-hits in 16-games. He also scored 17-runs and stole 10 bases. Sturm will most likely play middle infield in baseball and defensive back and punt returner in football.
“I always wanted to play in college; I just wasn’t sure which sport,” said Sturm, when asked about his aspiration to play college sports. “I started lifting weights in middle school. I am smaller, so I figured I needed to make up for the lack of size with strength. I’ve done a lot of off-season work as well.”
Grant Sturm is also a two-time state tennis qualifier.
He plans on studying Sports Administration.
