(Atlantic) The New Life Church Shoe drive continues through July 1 to raise funds to send children to camps that otherwise couldn’t afford to go.
“Summer camp is a memorable experience, and we have many kids plugged into our youth group that cannot afford to go,” said Ali Pieken, New Life Church Outreach Coordinator. “It costs around $200.00 per child to attend camp for a week. We have quite a few kids who aren’t able to go because their families cannot pay for it. We don’t want money stopping them from going.”
Pieken says the church will earn funds based on the total weight of the pairs of gently worn, used, and new shoes. Fund2Orgs will issue a check for the collected shoes. “Who doesn’t have shoes lying around that you don’t want or don’t need, or your children have outgrown. With Salvation Army closing, I thought people would be happy to donate.”
The shoes must be wearable with no holes, broken soles, or broken heels. The church will accept tennis shoes, boots, flip-flops, sandals, slippers, and sports cleats.
People can drop off the gently worn shoes on the front porch of the yellow house on the corner at 1111 Plum Street. The box is emptied daily.
