(Audubon) A series of work sessions will be held by the Audubon City Council to determine how they’ll respond to a request from Waspy’s.
Waspy’s approached the council this week in regards to Economic Development assistance. Audubon City Clerk Joe Foran says, “Their tax situation is quite high. They are paying upwards of $375,000 a year in property taxes. With what they are bringing to the community in terms of economic development they are asking for some type of help to offset that large payment of taxes.”
Foran says the city has established a tax abatement process in the past, but this case is different. “They are in a TIF district so they are asking for help through the TIF funds differently and of course there are other limitations there so it just kind of needs to be worked out.”
Waspy’s presence has been beneficial to Audubon according to Foran. “They’ve brought a lot of jobs and a lot of property valuation to help so it has had a positive impact in the community.”
Waspy’s also requested an extension on their Iowa DNR plan and were granted a 45 day extension.
