(Glenwood) The Atlantic Boy’s track team won seven events and finished second in one other race at the Class 3A State Qualifying Meet at Glenwood on Thursday.
Senior Colin Mullenix earned four gold medals, and Craig Alan Becker hammered out three first-place finishes. The Shuttle Hurdle Relay team comprises four seniors, Garrett Reynolds, Joe Weaver, Zane Vance, and Mullenix. The group won the race and broke their own school record with a season-best time of 1:02.57. Mullenix swept the hurdle races. The senior won the 110 Meter Hurdles (16.20), 400 Meter Hurdles (56.20), and ran the 400-meter leg on the winning Distance Medley Relay Team. The quad of Gannon O’Hara, Zane Vance, Mullenix, and Becker clocked a 3:36.48. Vance also finished second in the 400-meter hurdles in 57.00. Becker won the 800 (2:00.35) and clocked a (4:32.01) to win 1600.
The 4×800 Meter Relay Team of Caden Andersen, Alex Sonntag, Jayden Proehl, and Bennett Whetstone topped the field in a time of 8:38.74. The team consists of all underclassmen. Andersen and Proehl are sophomores, and Sonntag and Whetstone are freshmen.
Glenwood won the team title with 172-points, Atlantic, second, 135, Harlan, third, 120, Bishop-Heelan, fourth, 89, Denison-Schleswig, fifth, 63, Carroll, sixth, 60, Clarke, seventh, 47, and Creston finished eighth with 43-points.
