(Atlantic) Braden Smith carded a 38, and Garrett McLaren fired a 39 to lead Atlantic past Harlan, 168-208 in boy’s golf at the Atlantic Golf and Country Club on Tuesday. Drey Newell shot 44, and Lane Nelson finished with a 47 for the Trojans. Roth Den Beste shot a 47, and Cruz Weaver scored a 51.
“Braden had a great round today,” said Atlantic Head Coach Ed Den Beste. “He finished strong with a string of pars to finish the round. It was great to see Garrett McLaren play well and finish in the 30s. Drey and Lane had struggles with chipping and putting. Great to see Roth have a great round as well. Cruz had two bad holes, but the rest were pretty good.”
The Atlantic Junior Varsity topped Harlan 218-220 for their first win this season. Cooper Jipsen and Tate Niklasen led the way with 49’s, Chris Keegan, 59, and Colton Becker finished with a 61 for the junior Trojans.
“This was the first win for JV this year, and it’s good to see Cooper and Tate shoot in the 40s. Colton had some struggles but kept his score as low as possible. Chris had his best score this year. Great to see them improving.”
