(West Des Moines) The Atlantic girl’s golf team competed at the West Des Moines, Valley, Lamson Invitational Golf Tournament at the Willow Creek Golf Course on Friday.
The Trojans finished 10th in the 12 team tourney with a team score of 421. Roni Hook finished 30th overall with a 48-49 (109). Abby Muller shot a 55-51 (106) and placed 49th. Abby Smith, 52-57, (109), ( 48th), Reagan Leonard, 56-53, (109), (49th), and Lexi Noelck, 60-58, (118), (61st).
“Except for Roni Hook, this was the first 18 hole competition for these girls,” said Atlantic Head Coach Kathy Hobson. “Everyone gained valuable experience against some very quality 4A teams. We had our ups and downs; playing conditions were cold and windy, which is no excuse because everyone had to play in it. It affected the younger girls lacking that experience.
Roni Hook came away with a birdie and a par on the day; Abby Muller sank one par.
“Despite not meeting our goal of finishing at least in the middle of the pack, the true highlight was another coach sharing that his players and their parents watching had made numerous positive comments about the Atlantic girls being friendly, showing good etiquette, and how they carried themselves on the course,” said Hobson.”Marty, (assistant coach), and I see that every time we are out, but it makes us very proud when others recognize the quality of girls we have.”
Shannyn Vogler, of Betterndorf, was Medalist with a 68. Amber Henson of Marshalltown was runner-up Medalist with a 68.
