(Anita) CAM has some tremendous graduates to replace off their boys and girls golf teams from last year.
2019 state runner-up Sammi Jahde has graduated from the girls team while the boys will look to replace past state qualifier Ben Tibken. Replacing the star power at the top of the lineup won’t be easy, but co-head coach Joe Wollum is expecting big things from their top boys golfer this year, Ethan Arp. “We have a senior in Ethan Arp that we expect a lot out of this year. Peyton Jessen is another senior that will give us some good scores and we have a sophomore in Logan Lawrence that didn’t get to play his freshman year, but we are excited to see what he can do.”
The girls team won’t have very much experience returning, but they have some candidates willing to see what they can bring to the team. “We have a couple of girls that have a little bit of golf experience in Maddie Holtz, and she played as a freshman and gave us some good rounds so she’ll be back and she’s dual sporting with track, and then Reese Snyder, a sophomore who missed out on golf last year, but has played a little bit of golf. Then we have some other girls that are going to give golf a try. Mady McKee is going to give golf a try, one of our standout volleyball players and softball players. Some freshman are going to give golf a try with Kiera Nichols, Eva Steffensen, and Meredith Rich. We are excited to have some athletic girls and hopefully that can translate into a good golf swing.”
As they start practice this week they’ll be working on a lot of putting. “We aren’t probably going to be outside very much, so inside some work we can do where I feel we can probably gain a lot of strokes is putting. We’ll work a lot on putting, especially with the lack of experience we have. That’s where you need to start is putting and chipping and short game. You can gain a lot of strokes if you can be successful chipping and putting.”
Wollum adds missing out on last year stung, so they are ready to get back out on the course and have some fun.
