(Audubon) The Audubon Recreation Foundation is hoping to expand the rec center.
The plan is to add a full size basketball court with a walking track. Kyle Kjergaard, who is on the subcommittee, says, ” Originally we were hoping to have a gymnasium on this project when it started years ago. We do have a half court for basketball in there now, but we feel there is a need to expand to a full court gym. The dirt work was done for most of the project on the east side of the facility and the facility has been a great success so far. There seems to be some excitement to do this expansion.”
They are still working on cost estimates and will be pursuing some grants soon. “Hopefully we’ll be having some announcements in the near future of some of our fundraising efforts. There is some money starting to come in which is good because for those grants we do need some pledges and/or donations already established to get a hold of some of that grant funding.”
Kjergaard points out the facility has been a welcome addition for Audubon and the surrounding area. “It’s just been a nice little get away close to home with the bowling and the basketball and it’s just real family oriented which is neat. The families can come in and there’s something for all different ages to do, so it’s been some nice recreation.”
A trivia night fundraiser is set up for April 3rd. Donations can be made by contacting any Audubon Recreation Foundation Board or Subcommittee Member.
