(Des Moines) Creston and Manilla were two of 18 Iowa communities across Iowa receiving monetary awards through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, supporting community improvements.
Creston is receiving a $600,000 Community Development Block Grant for the Cities water treatment improvement project. The City of Manilla is receiving a $300,000 CDBG award for Daycare.
The Iowa Department of Economic Development is awarding 6.18 million to 18 communities for water/sewer and stormwater infrastructure improvements, housing rehabilitation, and employment-related transportation projects. Grants are awarded based upon the benefit to low- and moderate-income Iowans, financial need, project impact and readiness, and local resources commitment to the project.
CDBG funds enable communities to make needed improvements to water and sewer systems, improve housing conditions for low-income homeowners, provide facilities for disabled and at-risk individuals and make transformative downtown improvements.
The CDBG program is federally funded through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. IEDA is responsible for administering the CDBG funds in the non-metropolitan areas of the state.
