(Red Oak) Red Oak Firefighters were called to a house fire at 209 E. Maple Street Thursday evening.
Red Oak Fire Chief John Bruce said Red Oak Police observed smoke coming from the home at around 10:30 p.m. When firefighters arrived, they encountered smoke and flames inside the first-floor front room area. Firefighters performed an offensive attack and limited the damage to the front rooms and ceiling area. The blaze also burned through several ceiling joists and wood framing components.
The tenant and her four children were not at home at the time the fire broke out. There were no injuries to emergency responders.
The Montgomery County, Emergency Management Agency, assisted in getting the family in contact with the Red Cross, and they were able to relocate to a relative’s home.
Chief Bruce says it appears the fire was caused by faulty wiring in the front room ceiling. Bruce says the fire remains under investigation as this property experienced issues with the electrical system earlier in the day and made arrangements to repair the problem.
The damage estimate is unavailable at this time.
