(Red Oak) The 2021 Hawkeye Ten Conference Wrestling Tournament starts at 10:30 a.m. today in Red Oak. Conference officials moved the meet from Atlantic to Red Oak to take advantage of the two adjoining gyms needed to allow more spectators.
Creston-O-M is favored to win the tourney. The Panthers won the dual portion of the Hawkeye Ten Conference Championship with a perfect 10-0 record.
Atlantic/CAM Head Coach Tim Duff….
Coach Duff says the question is-can some of the other top performers make a run at them. He admits it’s probably going to take some upsets to do it.
Duff says his squad needs to take one step forward from where they’ve been during the regular season if they want to keep up with the leaders today.
The tournament will be run with four-mats in each gym. The pigtail and 1st round matches start at 10:30 a.m. The 106-145 pound weight classes will wrestle in the Orange gym, and the 152-285 pound wrestlers will compete in the Black gym. The second round will be the quarterfinals, and 1st round wrestle back, followed by the semi-finals, and 2nd round wrestle back. Depending on the 45-minute rule, there may be a round of 7th, then a round of 5th/3rd on one mat, and the championship matches on the other mat.
The finals are slated to start at 2:00 p.m. and may starter earlier because of four mats in each venue.
We will have coverage of the Tournament today on 95.7 F.M. The first report starts at 10:20 a.m.
