(Atlantic) The Atlantic boys’ basketball team extended their winning streak to four with a 65-51 win over St. Albert at Atlantic on Friday night.
Skyler Handlos knocked down 21-points, Ethan Williams added 10, and Grant Sturm scored nine-points to lead Atlantic. Connor Cerney scored 15-points, Carter White added 10, and Sam Rallis chipped in 8 points to lead St. Albert.
Atlantic’s big second quarter gave the home team the separation they needed to notch the victory. After opening up a 14-7 first-quarter advantage, the Trojans knocked down three long-range shots, six field goals, and a free throw, while limiting the visitors to just eight points for a 36-15 lead at the break. Handlos led the charge with 15-first half points, Williams finished with six, Ethan Sturm came off the bench and splashed down a three, and sophomore Caden Andersen finished with a layup at the buzzer.
“For having six-days off, I thought we came out with great energy tonight,” said Atlantic Head Coach Jeff Ebling. “We talked about coming out and setting the tone. We did a great job of limiting St. Albert to one shot and done, and it carried over into that second quarter.”
The Trojans extended the lead to 49-27 after three quarters and 65-51 when the final bell sounded.
“This was a big win and another conference win,” said Ebling. “But we have to get right back at because we have two big weeks ahead of us.
Other scorers for Atlantic were; Garrett Reynolds, 6, Dayton Templeton, 5, and Caden Andersen, 4. Ethan Sturm, Craig Alan Becker, and Keaton Juhl each scored 3-points, and Jayden Proehl chipped in one.
Atlantic extends their record to 7-5 overall and one game behind league-leading Glenwood in the Hawkeye Ten Conference standings. St. Albert is now 7-8 on the season.
Atlantic hosts Red Oak next Tuesday night. The Falcons host Council Bluffs, Abraham Lincoln, on Saturday night.
