(Atlantic) Four players scored in double-figures to lead Urbandale over Atlantic 64-55 in a girl’s basketball game at Atlantic on Saturday night.
Payton Oetting and Macie Gaskill each scored 14-points, Kelsey Heller, 12, and Meredith Umland added 11 for the J-Hawks. Haley Rasmussen led Atlantic with 22-points, Lauren Nicholas and Maycie Waters each scored 10.
The J-Hawk’s 23-point performance in the second quarter erased a 16-9 deficit. Urbandale’s 6’1 post-Meredith Umland provided the firepower with nine points. Heller and Gaskill each connected on three-point shots to push Urbandale to a 32-24 lead at the break.
Payton Oetting came off the bench and sparked the offense in the second half with four three-point shots, and the J-Hawks led 45-35 at the end of three quarters.
Atlantic attempted a rally in the final frame with 20-points. Rasmussen accounted for 10 of the 20. However, Urbandale forced to the free-throw line in the final two minutes drained seven-of-nine dashing the home team’s hopes for a comeback.
Besides the four players in double figures for Urbandale. Loraine Koura scored nine-points, Josie Birdwell, 3, and Taylor Mulligan pitched in one.
Others scoring for Atlantic, Tessa Grooms, 7, Jada Jensen, 4, and Taylor McCreedy added two-points.
The J-Hawks improve their record to 2-6. Atlantic falls to 6-8.
