(Atlantic) The Atlantic Public Library Board discussed a “wish list” of capital improvement projects at Monday’s meeting.
Library Director Michelle Andersen says the board talked through a list of items. Unfortunately, Andersen says the Library Board expended the Cities capital improvement funds on the youth service renovation project completed last spring. She says the board is looking at ways to complete a series of smaller projects rather than spend a large lump sum of money for one big project.
“Because our capital improvement budget through the City is expended, we’re going to have to fundraise, and apply for grants if we’re going to get through our wish list,” said Andersen. “Our first step is to prioritize the order of projects, and how to fund it.”
Andersen says the board has some ideas, but nothing is set in stone at this time. Those items on the Library Boards “wish list” includes improvements to the adult services section upstairs, such as replacing the water fountain, converting the old fireplaces with electric inserts to provide a cozy, homier feel that would be more inviting for people to come in and spend more time at the library. Other ideas include new flooring and a new coat of paint, and a new circulation desk.
Andersen says the improvements would give the entire upstairs a refresh like the one completed in the library’s downstairs section.
