Private Family Mass of Christian Burial for 82-year old Agnes C. Pottebaum of Anita, will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Anita on Tuesday, January 12, 2021, with committal to follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
Open visitation with no family present will take place on Monday, January 11, 2021 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Hockenberry Funeral Home in Anita, IA.
Agnes Clara Pottebaum, 82, of Anita, IA passed away on Friday, January 08, 2021, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, IA. Agnes Reiling was born January 05, 1939, in Carroll County, Iowa, to Theodore and Anna (Lamberty) Reiling. She attended Maple River St. Francis Grade School and graduated from Kuemper Catholic High School in 1957.
On April 25th, 1959 she married Ray Pottebaum at St. Francis Catholic Church in Maple River, Iowa. They lived in Carroll County, Iowa until moving to the farm west of Anita in 1971, where they lived for 50 years. Agnes worked at the Burke Hotel restaurant until 1959. After marriage, she spent her time as a wonderful homemaker, mother, grandmother, and farm wife. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Anita and the Catholic Women’s Organization. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing cards, cooking, sewing, and traveling (especially to Branson, MO).
Agnes is survived by her husband Ray of 61 years; her four children and their families; Karen Hartshorn (Jeff), John Pottebaum (Shelly), Larry Pottebaum (Brenda), and Carol Crane (Mark); 15 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; a brother Don Reiling (Rosie); brother-in-law, Ray Huegerich; sisters-in-law Elaine, Louvine (Lou), and Rosie Pottebaum and Mary Lou Rotert.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Anna Reiling; her father and mother-in-law, John and Coletta Pottebaum; infant brother Ronald, brother Ray (Bernadine) Reiling; sisters Darlene (Roy) Moore, Rosemary Huegerich, and Dorothy Dales Huegerich; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Vern (Nora), Paul (infant), Earl (Caroline), Don, Art, Rita, Bob Pottebaum, and Jerry Rotert.
Masks and social distancing are required to be in attendance. Services are entrusted to Hockenberry Family Care in Anita, Iowa.
