(Carroll) Atlantic held Kuemper, Catholic, Carroll to single digits in the final three quarters and ran away with a 63-33 win on Friday night at Kuemper.
Jada Jensen scored a season-high 20-points, and Haley Rasmussen finished with 19 to lead the Trojans.
Kuemper’s field goal early in the contest proved to be their only lead of the game. The Trojans responded with a 14-0 run. Kuemper hustled up an 8-0 run late in the frame, and closed the gap to 16-10 at the end of the first quarter, but that would be as close as they would get.
The Trojans buckled down on defense and outscored the Knights 20-9 in the second quarter. Jensen and Lauren Nicholas led the charge with six points apiece.
Atlantic kept their foot on the gas in the second half holding Kuemper to a stingy 14-points, to run away with the 63-33 win.
“I am pleased with the team’s performance tonight,” said Atlantic Head Coach Dan Vargason. “There’s a lot of history with Kuemper and Atlantic, and it hasn’t been on our side in a long time. We called out the girl’s this week to get better defensively. We challenged them; they responded and worked together.”
Besides Jensen and Rasmussen’s combined 39-points, Maycie Waters scored nine, Nicholas, eight, Tessa Grooms, four, and Aspen Niklasen chipped in two for Atlantic.
Catherine Mayhall led the Knights with nine points, Aquet Malek and Brooklyn Gifford each scored six, Kyndal Hilgenbert, five, Karley Baumhover, four, and Frances Glynn added three points.
