(Council Bluffs) Allie Petry’s layup with seconds left sealed a 65-64 win over Atlantic in a girls’ basketball game at Saint Albert on Saturday.
Petry capped off the contest with 31-points, and teammate Lauren Williams added 17-points.
Haley Rasmussen led Atlantic with 25-points, Tessa Grooms scored 12, and Lauren Nicholas chipped in ten points.
The Saintes charged out to a 20-10 first-quarter lead. Petry set the tone with nine of the team’s 20-points. The Trojans responded with a 7-0 run to start the second quarter and tied the game at 31-31 on Lauren Nicholas field goal at the buzzer.
Saint Albert gained a 48-43 advantage after three quarters, but the Trojans rallied back in the final frame. Nicholas and Rasmussen sparked the comeback with two long-range shots. Taylor McCreedy broke loose and banked in a layup with seconds remaining to give Atlantic a 64-63 advantage but only for a few seconds. The Saintes immediately triggered the ball into play-fired a long pass to Petry, and the senior laid it in to give her team the eventual 65-64 win.
Pearl Reisz scored seven-points, Allison Narmie and Missy Evezic each scored four, and Makenna Shepard, the Saintes point guard who provided excellent floor play, ended the night with two points.
Jada Jensen scored seven points, Taylor McCreedy, five, Maycie Waters four, and Aspen Niklasen scored one point for the Trojans.
