(Hancock) A parade was held this morning for long time Hancock Fireman Jim Kock who is battling cancer.
Cyndi Guyer, Training Officer and EMS Captain, said Jim Kock has been on the Hancock Fire Department for 30 years. He is currently the Hancock Fire Chief and the Mayor of Hancock.
In July, Jim was diagnosed with cancer and since then the cancer has rapidly spread.
“Today, we got the call from hospice that he’s not feeling the best so we’re going to do a little fire parade. He worked for FS for a long time so we’ve invited them to come; we have area fire departments that were nice enough to gather within a few minutes and we’re going to go by his house. We just want to show him he’s loved and give him a final goodbye so he knows that we all care and we’ll take care of everything in town,” said Cyndi Guyer.
Fire Departments from Hancock, Walnut, Oakland, Avoca, Minden and Carson as well as trucks from Agriland FS drove by Jim Kock’s home at around 8:40 a.m. The fire truck lights flashed bright, but the parade was silent as those who participated waved and saluted Jim Kock as they drove by.
