(Audubon) AHSTW got back to their winning ways with a 51-41 decision over Audubon Tuesday night. The defending Western Iowa Conference champs start off league play 1-0.
The visitors scored the first seven points of the game, but then saw Audubon rattle off eight straight to take the lead. The Wheelers built the lead to 12-9 early in the 2nd quarter, but a 10-0 run put AHSTW in front. Claire Harris drilled three 3-pointers in the 2nd quarter to turn the tide. She finished with a team high 14 points while Claire Denning scored 12, Julia Kock had 11, and Kailey Jones scored 10. Kock scored four quick points early in the 4th quarter to help AHST gain some separation. Denning hit all seven of her 4th quarter free-throw attempts.
Three-pointers by Audubon’s Jaci Christensen and Aleah Hermansen helped the Wheelers close the gap to one possession on multiple occasions early in the 2nd quarter, but they never got over the hump. Christensen led Audubon with 19 points. Katelyn Nielsen added nine points.
AHSTW improves to 2-1 while Audubon falls to 0-2.
