(Audubon) Audubon’s signature landmark is in need of some TLC. Repairs and upgrades intended for Albert the Bull are estimated at $20,000.
A raffle has been established to raise money for the project. Tickets are $5 each or $20 for five. Sarah Slater with Audubon County Economic Development says Albert the Bull was built in 1964 and is the proud face of the community. “We’ve heard the words he’s kind of an icon for this community. He represents a lot of the positive things about our community. He’s just a big part of our community for many of us.”
Slater indicates the necessary work as a little bit more than standard maintenance. “They check him every year. He’s been re-painted in the last three years, but he’s never had any major repair work done. We feel really great at his age he looks good. There’s just a few cracks that we want to address and then a couple little spots that need repair so they don’t become bigger and then he’ll also be re-painted when that work is done.” If they exceed their fundraising target they’ll put it towards some landscaping projects surrounding Albert.
The grand prize for the raffle, donated by the T-Bone Committee, is a one night stay at the Blue Grass Inn and Suites along with gift certificates to The Barnburner, Bakery on Broadway, Present Company, a bottle of Danish Countryside Vines and Wine, and cutting board from Gabby’s and Crabby’s Place. Other prizes are dinner ingredients for four people from Audubon Food Land, multiple $100 and $50 beef certificates donated by the Audubon County Cattleman’s Association, a season pass to the Audubon Swimming Pool donated by Roxanne Hoyle, and $60 gift certificate to the Audubon Rec Center
The drawing will take place on December 12th. Contact Audubon County Economic Development or the Audubon Chamber of Commerce for tickets.
